EU vs USA

The USA is family. You don't abandon family just because they go through a phase.

Oh hell no brother. You'll see me defending the USA in European subreddits a lot, and I'll admit, I am an Americanphile in many areas and I do hope and want for better transatlantic relations.

But pretending that countries are "family" is not doable. If the USA does continue dicking around with our interests then that's that, we have to stand up for our interests and protect our own. Foreign relations shouldn't be personal. One thing the EU and USA agree on is just that. The French president Charles de Gaulle and American Foreign secretary Henry Kissinger both said it: "states have no friends, or sworn enemies, only interests".

That's not to say relations cant improve of course. Germany and France went from trying to kill each other on a weekly basis to being best of friends within a single generation.
