Screw Loan Forgiveness*

It sucks being screwed over for doing the right thing

Yes it does suck. There were several people in this subreddit warning against refinancing student loans to a private Servicer, because federal loan forgiveness was still on the table. I also saw people on twitter complaining that they continued making payments during the moratorium, and they now want a refund for those payments.

Making payments when no payment is due, or refinancing loans to get a better interest rate, are responsible things to do, but they weren't very smart things to do, considering the circumstances

Having said all that, yes this does suck and I feel for those who refinanced. SoFi and other Servicers smelled blood in the water and that's why they were giving away $500 just to get a hold of your loans.

Here's a comment I made 4 months ago in this sub, which was of course downvoted:

Many people are waiting to see what the Biden admin does with student loan forgiveness, as headlines/rumors have started circulating again this week. It would be awful if you refinance your federal loans to save $500, and then miss out on $10,000 forgiveness because your debt is now private.
