One night, when I was little at the age of 8, I always wake up at 10 at night as my bedtime was 8. By that time all the people in the house were asleep including the maid. My mum always working late and I would wake up everytime I heard my mum closed the front door, it's a sign that she just got back.
We lived in a flat, so my mum has the habit of not turn on the light when she's back so she doesn't disturb our sleep cause the light would be obvious in our room. It was not that dark so she could still see the furniture so she wouldn't bump into them. And I can always hear the car keys sound she put on top of the desk. She would check on us, me and my little brother and I would pretend to sleep while she check on us but it was dark so she wouldn't notice when I open my eyes for a bit. Everyday she does this except for Sunday.
And this time, at night, it was 10.25 at night as I see the clock at my bedside. It was windy, I got up late than usual, maybe my mum is back already. But then our door open, and I saw my mum outside the door, it was my mum, I know her figure well enough but it was so dark I couldn't see anything but her silhoutte at the door. And this time I spoke up, I spoke gently "Mumm..". I look at her, but she just stood there, looking at me, cause her head moving towards me after I spoke. She slowly close the door but her head still looking at me but I couldn't even see anything but a black silhoutte. After she close the door, I can still see the shadow under the door, she still outside our bedroom door. I just watch, and watch. She didn't move. She still there. I was nervous a bit. But then, I heard the the key sound, and the door open afterward. The lights are on, she just got back , and my mum as usual check on us, but this time I didn't pretend to sleep, and I saw it was my mum, and she saw me still awake and told me to sleep. I was relieved, I don't know why, and I asked her " Mum, why did you turn on the light this time? " She didn't say anything but she put her finger on her lip and close the door.
