Star Wars - My random opinion

For me what kills a bit of that fun factor is exactly the fact that they're supposed to be 100% canon now. Like, everyone says the EU was always canon but was it though? It kinda was, but for most people i think it wasn't on the same level as the movies at all, more like the kind of stuff you had in the back of your head when thinking about the movies. Then we got clone wars and yeah it didn't fit in with the old EU, but that was fine because it was under George so much closer to movie canon. And some old fans might disagree on this but George canon was always above everything else. If it confirmed something that happened in the EU, like the Mandalorian wars or Aurra Sing or whatever, great, exciting! If not, it didn't exactly affect the way you saw the movies. I never really believed Kyle Katan stole the Death Star plans or whatever, it was it's own fun thing for me, that worked and fit in mostly fine with the rest of the story if i wanted it to. Like, maybe i would laugh a little while rewatching episode 4, thinking "yeah, i stole those plans as Kyle, i know this" but i never really thought about this like it was George canon.
Now though? George canon is basically gone, because George isn't here. So everything's a licensed material, like a bigger budget EU. Which, great i guess! But because the EU essentially got a reboot i feel like i kind of have to take everything 100% seriously now, like it's Tolkien or something, and it isn't. The Marvel comics are fun sidestories, which might work as comics, but as a 100% canon "here's what happened" thing? Everything feels either intentionally small scaled and bland to not mess with the bigger picture, like nothing interesting can happen in most stories, and when something big does happen it's hard for me to take it seriously. Like, there's no way in hell Luke said to Darth Vader "you killed my father" and Vader replied "i've killed many fathers, you have to be more specific". It's a fun, corny comic line but it can't work as the kind of thing you reboot the EU and elevate it to movie canon for. And i mean, how could it? It's kind of unfair to expect that.
