Tetris 99 targeting system is like a mini game within itself, learning to optimize targeting can help you rank up. Having said that even when inundated with garbage early in the game, you will not get the lines right away there is a lot of grace time between when lines pile up and when you get your lines. It should be easy to clear them

When you have multiple attackers on you, you get an offensive bonus. so whenever you get “ganged on” you can set target to Attackers and return to all the other players. Having 5-6 targets on me early game is my dream. Easy KOs

Sometimes your random target will land on someone who’s legitimately really really good, and he’s returning lines to attacker (aka you). Wiggle the stick around (change between different targets) to lose sight of them
