Suomellada and her economic partners, 2078 AD:

(Note: This is just for fun. I'm not advocating any political agenda, except that it would be cool if Greece and Finland made a union).

The Hellenofinnic Thalassocracy was originally a maritime economic union between Greece and Finland, which went into effect in 2031. Having realized the combined influence of their strong shipping economies, their maritime industries were consolidated into an intergovernmental department, The Department of Maritime Affairs, which quickly dominated the world's seafaring trade routes, eclipsing the shipping prowess of all other nations. This resulted in an era of unprecedented mutual prosperity for both nations – and in 2039, the governments of Finland and Greece held a dual-referendum, in which overwhelming support was declared for an exclusive political union, which resulted in a new, dual-sovereign state: Suomellada.

Meanwhile, the effects of the ongoing Pontic-Syrian Wars between Russia and Turkey deteriorated the political landscape across continental Europe: The EU, with its dependence on Russian oil, was coerced into no longer recognizing Turkey as an ally. However, the UK and Denmark were conscientious objectors to this motion, instead mutually declaring Russia as an "enemy of the state." A NATO referendum was held, in which Turkey was expelled – this resulting in the resignation of Denmark from the EU, and Denmark and the UK from NATO, opting instead to form a military alliance with Sweden (although Sweden remained in the EU) and Turkey.

As the Pontic-Syrian Wars waged on, the Russian Navy began infiltrating the Turkish Straits and Aegean with submarines, without objection from Greece. A secret meeting was held between the Prime Minister of Greece and the Eternally-Elected Exaltus of Russia, in which an agreement was made: If Greece agreed to let its eastern maritime boundary be temporarily occupied by the Russian navy, Russia would forgo all future plans to invade Finland. Ultimately, the Turkish Republic lost the Pontic War during the Battle of Marmara in 2045. Russia occupied Istanbul and the European portion of Turkey, and subsequently sent its navy to Cyprus, where Russia was met with little resistance by Turkish forces. However, Ankara recentralized its military focus in central Anatolia; and the Syrian War between Turkey and Russia continued.

As a gift for Greece's compliance, Russia awarded her the territories of European Turkey and Northern Cyprus (under the condition that Northern Cyprus would contain a Russian military base), while Istanbul was ceded to the Russians, who renamed the city "St. Vladimir". A bitter, ongoing series of conflicts ensued on the eastern front of the St. Vladimir Oblast between Turkish and Russian forces, while the previously Turkish provinces of Edirne, Tekirdag, and northern Çanakkale became relatively peaceful, with only a flux of political demonstrations. The Greek budget surplus was used to build new infrastructure in these areas. There was no official subsequent population exchange between Greece and Turkey, although some Turks elected to move to the Republic of Turkey, resulting in a population boom in the city of Çanakkale.

After the outcome of the Pontic War, Denmark increasingly feared infiltration by Finland, as Suomellada ships were frequently passing through her waters. In early 2047, Denmark officially banned the passage of all ships which beared the flag of the Suomellada, in an attempt to exert influence in the region. Unfortunately for them, Finland was not pleased: She unleashed a fleet of Carnival cruise ships from the Turku shipyards, equipped with elite laser-sniping technology, and launched a cross-Baltic campaign in order to assert dominance. On the way, Finland claimed and annexed Gotland, angering the helpless Swedes (and receiving condemnation and "strong words" from the UN, as well as the EU, who revoked Suomellada's membership); and Finland continued its mission to take over Denmark.

It was all over before it began: Sjælland was surrounded by elite snipers, whose collective morale was boosted by Levy and the Leavings booming over the cruise ships' speakers. The Kingdom of Denmark had no choice but to surrender all of her land, including the Faroe Islands and Greenland. Subsequent referendums in the aforementioned territories resulted in the Faroe Islands electing to be included in Suomellada, while Greenland elected to become a sovereign nation, to which Finland and Greece had no objection.

After the successful takeover of Denmark,, the Finnish Carnival fleet continued barreling towards the UK, which had already been facing its own political turmoil, as Scotland finally won independence in a 2045 referendum. At the request of Greece, Finland plotted an invasion of the Thames River, in order to retrieve the Elgin Marbles from the British Museum in London. The rapidly-weakening England, with no NATO or EU to call upon, quickly diffused the situation by surrendering the Marbles – and the greater conflict, later known as the Carnival Campaign, officially ceased in a decisive victory.

Beyond this series of events, the Northern Sami engaged in a political uprising against the Kingdom of Norway in 2066, after two generations of exceptional population growth, giving them the manpower to overcome the Norwegian county-level government of Troms og Finnmark. An agreement was reached between the Norwegian and Sami governments, re-dividing Troms og Finnmark into its pre-2020 political boundaries, with Finnmark going to the Sami, and Troms remaining part of Norway. The Northern Sami renamed their new nation Sápmi, and initiated programs to invite the relocation of other Sami populations into their country, if they so chose. In order to strengthen their financial outlook, they became the first sovereign nation to join Suomellada in an economic zone, adopting their currency: The Drachmarkka.

In 2069, another political uprising stunned the world: The Breton people of Brittany, France, launched a series of covert operations to overthrow the regional French government; and set up rebel military forces at its eastern frontier. Suomellada officially endorsed the Breton people, offering naval support; and Ireland and Scotland engaged in a joint-military operation to occupy Brittany, which overwhelmed the French offense, and resulted in a new geopolitical boundary for the EU. The Breton people renamed their soverign state Breizh, and elected to join two economic unions: The Hellenofinnic Economic Zone, and the Cross-Celtic Currency Cooperative (a currency union established by Ireland and Scotland), thus making Breizh a dual-currency nation.

Finally, out of sheer boredom, Scotland decided to join the economic union of Suomellada in 2078. No word yet on the Republic of Ireland's stance regarding this.
