All cities have their issues. Carjackings happen here too, just not as often as Chicago.

Honestly, I just get tired of the shit and needles comments because they're tired and unoriginal. The needles aren't even a thing any more bc junkies have evolved to preferring freebasing. Sad and true. They also tend to occupy a few specific parts of the city. Unfortunately, those places are close to where the biggest hotels are, which is probably why you had that experience when you were in town for a conference or something.

2) The shit thing is a problem but it's way more noticeable here than other cities because it's small and it never rains. You can say the same thing about LA but that city is geographically massive. Chicago, NYC, Portland, etc all get like 2-3x the rainfall that SF gets.

In closing, I hope the next tame impala show in the bay area is better. It will probably be in the Warriors arena again bc that's where the money is. But every arena show I've ever been to has been overpriced with bad sound. Add a bad show on top of that. . . . and it just means that Tame Impala won't get another ticket sale from me if they play the same venue.
