"Could I Be in Love?" SNL Live Video

It took me years to warm up to Currents after being quite disappointed initially. To me, the first two records powerfully demonstrated how much we need a modern kickass psychedelic rock band that can melt your face off. Then Currents happened, and I immediately thought it was so incongruous that it should have been released as a KP solo album. I was also confused by how, overnight, Tame Impala suddenly became Kevin Parker and the rest of the original band evaporated. We often forget that, pre-Currents, TI was a band with KP as their frontman. Since then, it’s been essentially a solo project when they’re not touring, That’s all fine and good, but it seems to me that Tame Impala 1.0 was a cohesive group that was uniquely capable of masterpieces like Innerspeaker and Lonerism. Their creative trajectory was what got me so stoked about their music, because it was powerfully innovative. Tame Impala 2.0, while still great, is a different animal altogether. And a neutered one,

Kevin is the genius behind both versions of the band, which is why I’ve come to love Currents and think this new stuff is pretty good. I’m just saying that we need to recognize the fundamental differences between Tame Impala 1.0 and Tame Impala 2.0.
