THROWBACK: Obama used his situational awareness to find a woman behind him was fainting (MORE IN COMMENTS)

Universal healthcare died in the primaries. I voted for it, I hope you did too but that's where that battle was fought and lost. The progressive movement is growing into its own but you can only navigate a country against it's will so much. The Congressional votes for M4A simply aren't there, Biden couldn't pass it if he wanted to. He's working with what the country gave him.

Downplay the infrastructure bills all you want but they are transformative. It's hard to see it in the moment but slashing child poverty and getting universal Pre-K is going to have a reckoning that makes me giddy. That's our future. Same with green investments and the carbon goals he laid out. It's not everything climate change needs (far from it) but it is the framework. And if the wealth tax gets paired in all the better. The bills are setting up countless "thanks Biden" moments for decades.

The war is complex but just like he took most the fallout for pulling out, he'll eventually get most the credit for pulling out too.

Speculating into midterms I think we can expect federally legal weed and canceled student debt. It's been on their agenda and young people have short memories so I think they are saving that feel good policy until late summer early fall. Assuming that's the case that will be quite the list of actions in two years. And they're actions that cut through talking points and highlights party differences and simplifies "kitchen table math".

I know that's not much compared to an imaginary progressive country, congress and president but if you compare it to reality and our history then it's all historic. And all while being a decent role model who doesn't engage and fan culture wars. Of you zoom out past this moment these are going to be the hallmarks of his presidency and history will be kind to him.
