I'm a security officer, if there someone doing something wrong at a venue/site/club and you intentionally keep them there you are doing nothing but escalating the situation and keeping the "threat" on site.

And if I was to close the door and block their exit wether they had done something illegal or not then I would be illegally holding them there.

When you're challenging someone and not giving them an exit then there's not really any other choice for them than to get aggressive, you've essentially taken away the chance of flight with fight or flight.
