Unpopular opinion. A very toxic friendship between two girls

You made some pretty good points about how Toni has not been the greatest friend to Martha. Although I would hate to see their friendship end/fall apart seeing as how they were friends for so many years. I did have a problem with how Toni didn’t pay much attention to Martha, especially after killing the goat, then all the other animals. We see in S1 that she was helping the turtle get off its back, which shows just how major this shift is for her character (“wouldn’t hurt a fly” to hunting animals for the girls to eat). Also it was kind of upsetting to see Toni prioritizing spending time with Shelby (even though I love them, they should get back together in S3) over checking in on Martha. One of the only times we see them having a heart to heart in S2 was when Toni was having trouble with being worthy of love (to which Martha was like yeah Ik how that feels), only be like ok good bye back to Shelby now. Toni’s outbursts toward the girls were fitting for her character, but I’d like to imagine that deep down she knows she’s the person she should blame the most. That’s her best friend, and only when she was catatonic did she spend all that time checking on her and trying to help her. It even upset me how she blamed Shelby about the boat when she said it was ok earlier and rationalized that they wouldn’t have seen the fire from such a distance (especially with the boat disappearing in a matter of seconds). I understand your point on how Toni is the most to blame, I think she should have been there for Martha as much as she was there for her. Instead of the friendship ending though, I think Martha should tell Toni she needs to be a better, more attentive friend and not wait for things to get that bad in order for her to be by her side. Martha deserves someone who can match her energy and be there for her (at least check up on her and see how’s she’s doing) when she’s well or bad. Good friends are there through thick and thin.
