Upstate New York, PLEASE...

Want to hear some Upstate NY BS on behalf of my parents and sisters family in rural upstate NY.

I have a huge cluster of extended family and they all live close in rural upstate NY. They all got Spectrum last year. About 6 miles from any suburban area, as part of NY's Broadband for All initiative.

My parents and my sisters family live 1.1 miles from the rest of the family, on a 2 mile U-shaped road with 5 houses.

If you look at the map, every bit of the surrounding area gets Spectrum, even houses way farther out. But this one road with only 5 houses, Spectrum won't touch it.

I emailed NY. "The designated ISP for that area is HughesNet." ...and that area is just this little sliver on the map. Just that road.

Fuck that. Oh, but because of NY, they've increases their data caps from like 25GB to 100 GB (or something like that.) ...that's half a Call of Duty game you'd be able to download and not play online because of Satellite internet.

They actually had satellite internet 20 years ago, when it was newer... But its always been garbage. They switched to DSL. Everybody on that road has DSL. Its 1.5-2.5 Mbps. Does 1 thing poorly, and everything comes to a halt if you try to do two things.

Looking forward to them getting Starlink. Both preordered.
