Week 2: Eisenhower on Technocracy

Thanks for replying, I also mentioned Eisenhower's previous military service and his desire to strike balance as he knew that balance was necessary. When I spoke of my own experience it was from a point of view of understanding his concerns. Personally, I love a strong military, I am never fearful of losing a conflict. I needed to speak on the topic, not my own opinion on a strong military. I felt I needed to clear that up as I am definitely not ignorant as to why we are a superpower. My usage of global spending on militarization was to show how far military technological innovation has come since 1953 because as I stated before, prior to the Korean War , the United States tended to return to normal after a war instead of becoming proactive. I love that this precedence was set as it is what started us on the dominant path we are on now. Lastly, to clarify any confusion, I used the Space Race example because it correlated with Eisenhower's insistence on keeping America's image as doing our own thing and being less concerned with competing with other countries technologically as we were in both a space and armament race with the Soviet Union. The Arms race was, for obvious reasons much more clandestine than the highly publicized Space Race, but anyone could realize that these nations with two powerful military forces cared more about who is stronger versus who gets to visit space first. Because of this, Eisenhower wanted to make sure the United States seemed less invested, while still funding the space and arms race to stay ahead of our competitors.

In my opinion, he was more scared of our potential as a superpower. Sure the US has not been the most moral but we sure haven't tried to literally take over the world with our master race. We have done some questionable things but overall the morals of our country have stayed in the right direction of democracy for all even though they have been deterred in some bad directions. As long as he and other right-minded leaders stayed in power he wanted to make sure that we were not abusing our military complex then we should continue to build a strong one
