There are two groups of guys to buy tickets from: the black guys around the outside gates are Ok but youve got to haggle like a 1600s merchant. They dont own the tickets so they have a price floor that the sth or reseller sets for them. These guys are best for upper deck seats to get you in.
The other guys are your 60 year old white guys decked out in royals gear. These are the holy grail. Stand outside of main entrance and put your fingers in the air for tickets. These guys are the ones who have 2 to 4 STH tix between the diamonds. They arent looking for the most money they just dont want to sit next to loud drunks and will sell hou the tix for less so they arent bothered. 90 percent of the times if you just pull out a twenty they will sell it to you...expect to pay more for cards tix though. Offering to buy them beer or nachos almost always works to close the deal although they usually will politely decline when you make the actual beer run.
Get there early, an hour before first pitch. Haggle and walk on one of the black guys outside the parking lot gates so you get an idea of the upper bounds. Then make it to main gate and look for the Great White Buffalos with the STH tix (they have graphics on them and are oversized vs ticketmaster style).
As others have mentioned use stubhub app to buy the tix 5 minutes before pitch if all else fails.
A cheap trick is when STH great white buffalo comes up to you and you make the twenty dollar offer pull out the twenty and make sure he can see the money. Seeing the money is a cheap trick to get them to close the deal.
Jackson County Sheriffs are all around so there is zero chance you will get mugged. Also what you are doing is legal so no need to hide it. Dont hold the money in the air though that is considered gauche. Just hold up your fingers and draw some attention to yourself by saying I need a miracle, lets go royals, Cube...an...break....fast or whatever will make people smile and not think you are scary.
