Hey all. Came straight to this subreddit following some thinking this afternoon about joining the Military (Air Force..maybe, no clue.)

I'm gna introduce myself, you've got a real out of place nooby here; hope you can help...

Dad is in the USAF. Started at whatever you call your cubscouts at 16ish. 50ish now and has had a few tours in Iraq/Afghanistan. He was a reserve fireman, and I think has been stationed long term abroad only once to the UK in the early 90s - which is when he met my mum.

The lovers move back to Michigan around 92, I'm born 94 and in 1999 they split and my mum remarries in the UK. I have decent contact with dad but not much - didn't go through much hardship through his tours and saw him when he had his leave. He's now stationed in Kuwait (out of Michigan still - the base mccanaughey visited once to make that film, no clue, sorry) and I'm unphased to say that I know little about his current rank (no longer a fireman but a non-destructive inspector of...bombs? chemical weapons? no clue, sorry).

My gramps also had a similar career: half civ half military? They have a family business and so were only ever reserves I think. I assume they would be looked at as less than full-times. No clue, but they're both very respective of the AF and my dad has, ever since I left him at 14, been asking me to consider the AF Officer career (?) ..which I assume is different to being taken in straight as a soldier (??).

I have nonetheless followed the civ route. Great uni and degree in Economics in London (GPA>3.75 equiv.), and finishing up my 3rd internship at a big firm - these were done in my summers. I am now trying to find a job in financial consultancy in the city but am down to waiting on my final chance after a final interview round.

I am big on travelling and experiencing new things. I am currently in Amsterdam helping a firm expand in to Scandinavia, and want to continue living and working in different places.

I am in my last week here and have had the pressure of job hunting for a good few months. It only just occurred to me that going back home for a while(*) to do some kinda boot camp entry level deal in the military would benefit me in many ways. I dont intend to offend with the bullshit names I'm giving to things - just educate me in a comment.

I want to lead and be a leader. I havent trained well enough for that at school and still feel far too thin-skinned overall. I also want to build my body in to what I want it to be - strong and stable. I have decent musculature but my fitness/stamina is pretty appauling - im the typical lazy gym mouse. Go there most days but have no real regime, work the same shit every day and dont push myself in cardio - which I should be.

Anyway - my dad is alseep atm, and I've been too excited about this opportunity to wait for him to wake up and bug him with the following questions. So if anyone is willing - please let me know what my opportunities are (given my dads credentials, my qualifications (just undergad btw), work experience if applicable, and current view to stay in such a scheme for maximum 2 years - tell me if thats crazy).

Thanks.

Jason
