What are the best "Jewish foods" you all know?

There’s generally two different streams of “Jewish food”

Ashkenazic and Sephardic // Mizrahic

Some of my fav Ashkenazi foods - Cholent, (I think Cholent may be Pan-Judaic) latke, matzah ball soup, brisket, pastrami sandwiches, (the kinda stuff you’d get at Katz’ in NYC) knish, whitefish, bagels and lox, schnitzel, the list goes on tbh - many foods are shared with or similar to the countries Ashkenazi jews inhabited, but modified to be kosher. Germans and Jews both eat schnitzel, the Polish eat latke but call it something different, you get the point. Ashkenazi food can be very tasty, but is often overshadowed by Israeli / Sephardic food, which is in a lot of ways, honestly better. (Also gotta mention Gefilte Fish, some love it, some hate it, but it’s here to stay)

Israeli Food // Sephardic / Mizrahic Food - Shawarma in pita, shawarma in laffa, hummus, sauces like amba, schug, shakshouka, sabich, Israeli salad, Jerusalem style bagels, Jerusalem mix grill, ‘ice kafé, israeli doritos, israeli food is amazing. I’m Ashkenaz so I probably missed many great foods. Also many of this foods are shared with the countries these Jews inhabited, like non-Jewish Moroccans also eat Shakshouka. Also, Ethiopian Jews have their own kosher cuisine, Injera with various meats and vegetables, the Bukharan Jews have Plov.

Jewish / kosher food is amazing and highly varied, and continues to develop and evolve every day. Go to Crown Heights Brooklyn, Machne Yehuda market, or anywhere Jewish, and tap into the bounty of Jewish cuisine! Peace!
