What are some foods that you thought you disliked, but it turned out that you just never ate a well made version of it before?

Aww I went through almost the exact same thing with my grandma last year, and I’m so so sorry for your loss. I’ve lost loved ones to cancer, overdose and other natural causes but dementia is really messed up in its own horrible way. It’s such a slow painful process for all involved. I hope you are taking time to practice self care and have family or friends to lean on during this difficult time.

I can relate so much to what you said about the French toast. My grandma was an amazing cook and passed down a lot of her recipes to my sister, who then taught me. It will never taste as good as when she made it though, I think the missing ingredient is her love. Learning her recipes made me feel connected to her like it was a glimpse into her mind and the passion she had for food. Its comforting to me, when I make one of her recipes especially good and my family enjoys it. I always think of her and feel so thankful for all she has taught me.

I hope you can get ahold of that French toast recipe(or any other of your favorites) and one day you might bring joy to others with her recipes. That’s one of the many ways she can live on through you and still bring joy to others many years from now. Make her proud and keep sharing what she taught you to others. Sending love and best wishes to you and your family this holidays. ❤️
