What's the deal with desks facing walls?

  1. Cable Management
  2. Better use of space; why crowd up your space unnecessarily?
  3. Especially when your bedroom is your office, it would look silly.
  4. RGB works best when it's projected against a flat wall.
  5. In my opinion, feeling like you "can't have your back towards the door" is the same as putting your bed in the corner instead of the middle of the wall; eventually, we all grow out of that stage. The thing about having your back face the door is that there is nothing stopping you from closing the door.

Not sure what "universal recommendations" you are talking about. The majority of people in battlestations don't need "the power position" or whatever because when they video conference, it's not important that there be a wall behind them, and they also probably aren't worried about being surprised or crept up on.

I don't know. Unless you have a dedicated office room (and even then, I'm not so sure), it just seems borderline childish to me. (No offense intended).
