Working as a male CNA

I only just started as a CNA, and I am female, but I can give you some insight to my experience so far. Most of the residents will not GAF. They've dealt with male nurses, doctors, and other healthcare workers many times. Seniors also know what to expect, they go through the same routine daily so as long as you are competent that is all that matters. However, if anyone for any reason refuses care, that is totally up to them. You can't force yourself on someone, residents like who they like and you cannot reason with them. In some cultures, it may also not be acceptable to have a male caring for a female in that way. You also have to take into consideration a client's history and past traumas. Just don't take things personal. But I will say, your coworkers will love you! Having a male presence brings a feeling of safety and security. If we need help with a lift or a potentially violent situation, you bet you will be the first we call :) Good luck.
