Years ago I had a friend who was kind of strange : she knew a ton of shit, but rarely spoke, excelled at everything, but never tried. She was just riding the wave but if she wanted to, she could surf and beat the best. Eventually she stopped showing up for school and I would text her without any reply until one day she came to school and I immediately went over to her and (not hostile or anything) asked where she was and why did she not answer he texts. She shrugged and I got sad by that because, to me, it meant that she didn't care to explain herself to me. Little did I know, she tried to kill herself.

Fast forward a month where everything is better, not like it once was, but better than shrugging off an absence. One night, I get a text: "You don't know how meaningful you are to me, you have such a soft heart it could sleep on clouds. You can tear someone down but you only lift people up, I hate that you exist in this horrid world. Don't sell it, you're one of the few." And I didn't see her for three days until I found out she killed herself. I don't know if I have a "best" compliment but this is definitely the most meaningful.
