Maybe not the worst player ever, but the worst goalkeeper to win a world cup has to be Argentina's keeper from this past world cup.

Messi basically carried the team to a world cup. When you compare that guy against past winners like Lloris, Casillas, Buffon, Barthez, Tafarrel etc, he is BY FAR the worst of the bunch.

Who would've thought a player who was...

  • pushed out by teams his whole career
  • found a home at a mid-table English side
  • has no champions league experience
  • had poor statistics throughout that entire world cup (7 total saves, 8 goals allowed)

...would actually win a world cup? Talk about being up against the odds. Just goes to show how good Messi is, he can win cups even with teammates who nobody would ever pick to win a cup.
