Firstly, yes... That was an incredibly suspect thing to say. If my husband went missing (and my kids if I had them), I'm in NO WAY saying "If they're safe". I'm assuming they're safe!

Because he knows they're not safe and they're not coming back. He's a covert narcissist. I've written quite a lot on this site that shows he premeditated these murderers (at least the proof of it has the preponderance of the evidence), so everything he was saying to the reporter was squirrely.

He did not plan on getting "caught" so soon, so he didn't have his act together.

Nicole A. showed up unexpectedly; he was planning on removing the evidence, i.e., her phone, car, meds, and getting his story straight until that meddling Nicole showed up, foiling his plans.

So when the media descended, he was at a loss, and I'm sure he was distracted by the fact that he knew his chances were blown; he did not foresee having to talk to the press, so everything he said he winged.
