Yanis Varoufakis: After Donald Trump's awful victory, the left must be more ambitious

There are bad and good people in every group. I find nuance exists on every issue.

But as someone who has lived opposite a mosque most of my life I'm lacking in optimism. Fundamentalism is growing, noticeably. I see more women fully covered up than ever.

I cheer inside every time I see a scantily clad Muslim girl. But, we're talking about an ideology where it's perfectly acceptable to not just shun but kill apostates. Tolerance of intolerance doesn't help these people.

Not to mention the rapid population growth. Muslims have more kids and they have them younger. I literally know Muslim women who have fled the country/their husbands because they don't want to have more kids. They all get forced back by their families in their home countries eventually.

Who knows about immigration stats? I find them difficult to believe when with my own eyes I can see local population density has expanded at an incredibly rapid rate. It's so blatant and easy to witness to anyone who was my friend a few years ago and recently revisited my area.

I want to move. Even my Muslim weed dealer thinks I should get the fuck out of here because of the 'nutjobs' who've moved in.

I don't know what the solution is. Targeted religious deportations will never be allowed. Prohibition does not work. I actually support Trump's Muslim immigration ban. And I didn't vote Leave and only ever voted for Ed Miliband's Labour and Nick Clegg's Lib Dems. I hang out in /r/europe. I'm always trying to challenge my views.

We can't take any more. 5% of our population, ~10% of our youth. Even without any more immigration we're going to struggle to integrate all the ones here already.

Sorry, got a bit rambly. I just think Muslims at a Gay pride event are likely not remotely representative of Muslims in the rest of the country and we need to be honest about that. ~50% of British Muslims think being gay should be illegal. Not no gay marriage. Criminal. That's a crazy stat.
