Honestly I'm fine with any of the changes suggested here as long as the story isn't sacrificed in order to make the change

And therein lies the rub. I have found that when people try to cram political issues and morality broadcasting into a story, they often end up sacrificing the quality. In order for a script to be good, it has to be tight. You already have a story that needs culling due to the sheer breadth. So for every “issue” people try to inject, you have to cut out more of the meat.

I don’t want a political show. I don’t want social commentary that didn’t exist in the books. I want the writers to focus on the story, not present-day activism.
