Absolute Beginner and Out of Shape

I have a similar question. I'm a 27 year old woman, and I've been working on my diet for the last year, 38th consistent exercise for the past 6 months or so (40lbs down!) The classes I was taking were small group classes, mostly centered around cardio (various circuits with light weights, running or resistance bands, stretching, etc). I absolutely hate all-cardio-all-the-time, and I'm looking to join Crossfit to take things to the next level. I went to my local gym (not a chain) because they offer Crossfit, as well as other classes, such as yoga. I haven't joined yet, but I went in to ask some questions, and was invited to try their free trial Crossfit. I went on Saturday and it was just another lady and myself. The trainer gave us a run through of a typical class, what that day's WOD was, then he had us do several moves, slowly, so he could check our form and correct is, before moving onto the next one. We did basic squats, burpees, the row machine, and box jumps. Neither of us needed much correction, just a tweak here or there. Then he put together a sample AMRAP circuit using all the moves (we only did 1 round, but he wanted us to move quickly to see if our forms were still good when we were moving quickly). After we were all done, we chatted a bit more about basics, some FAQs people have. I asked what he recommended, and he said that both of us were ok, obviously inexperienced, but we could probably jump right in. He recommended certain class times over others (for example he said the 5 am group was large and mostly experienced) as well as certain trainers over others.

Is that normal? Or were we exceptions because we are both somewhat active already, and didn't need much correction with the basics? Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to be thorough.
