Yes I got value but did I feel the value was for whatever the hotel was charging for the upgrade? (if that makes sense)

Ding ding ding. This is a pet peeve of mine when people claim they got full value between the face value of that they booked and what the face value of the upgraded hotel room (or to biz/first class tickets to an extent).

Is it greater value, yes, but the reason they upgraded you is because at the time of your stay, nobody else was there to book it and pay the hotels asking rate. If there was, that client would be in the room, and not the free upgrade.

I usually like to think - how much additional would I have paid to stay here, fly this, etc. vs. what I booked and paid for. But then again I'm not one of those people that jacks off to cpp calculations.
