are you ever mentally ready for retirement?

She decided she was enjoying her work so much at age 65, she did not want to stop. I was happy with her being happy, there is no reason to believe that her retiring would have made her happier, and that’s all I ever wanted for her.

Nice, that’s good that she departed doing what she loves. I ask that because some years ago, the question was asked of my fellow coworkers “who would keep working if they won the lottery?” It was consistent amongst 30 some people split into teams of 5. Generally, only 1 person in each team, if that, would keep working regardless. So, it’s a rare person that truly enjoys their work and would keep doing it, even if money was plentiful.
