Are preppers preparing for the wrong scenario?

I like to think that I've prepped for just about every reasonable scenario that may come up in the relatively near future. If you look around, the future could really go just about any way you can imagine. We have medical science mapping the human brain, and has fully mapped the human genome. Technology and biology are becoming more intertwined daily, and the world of computing is making drastic improvements to life in all possible ways. Self-driving cars right around the corner, and the internet gives access to basically the entirety of all human knowledge, available at your fingertips. At the same time, we have a horrifically corrupt political system, an economy that is worse in every meaningful way than it was prior to the great depression of the 1930's.

The difference is that now, communication has become instantaneous. The distance between any given number of people has shrunk to zero, allowing like-minded individuals prep together, from thousands of miles apart. Events can no longer be hidden behind yellow journalism and the bought and paid for media. Events are broadcast live, from the people who are there to witness it, as it happens.

At no other time in the history of mankind has such a concurrence of extremes occurred. Whatever happens in the near future could be anything from almost nothing to drastically different ways of living.

As such, I've prepped in about as practical a way as one is capable of doing when living in an apartment. I've dug myself out of debt, and split my meagre savings into the bank, cash, gold bullion, and bitcoin. I've got myself in reasonably healthy shape, regularly biking and keeping active. Of the gear I can fit inside here, I've specifically looked for space-saving, efficient tools. Alpine camping stoves, collapsible cookware, freeze-dried food, bottled water, safety gear, camping gear, all efficiently arranged and packed in a variety of backpacks and camelbaks. Realistically, I could leave in under half an hour and be capable of living in the forest for a reasonable amount of time. I've left the office and begun a job in construction, allowing me to advance an unbelievable number of practical skills.

I like to think I've prepped pretty good.
