Asheville Vs Other Locations: Property Prices, Rental Yields, Home Insurance & Other Stats

No not rent control. Interestingly enough the way that property management companies operate seems to have the same effect as rent control, run down buildings with no one to really be held accountable because the obligation of being human to one another as parts of a community and not just an economy is shouldered by companies that seem to be ok with being unscrupulous in exchange for profit. Maybe rules like you have to show a tenant the apartment they are going to rent and not a "model". A two month notice should be outlawed, a landlord is already at an advantage because of the deposit covering their risk, a tenants only recourse for a landlord breaking the law is to take them to court, which many people can't afford. I could go on but the market sets the standard for goods that are mandatory and if the seller is the only one influencing trade it begins to unbalance in their favor. Leases over a year should also be outlawed. We shouldn't have to have government intervention to create a livable situation for the people who serve the tourist economy that drives the demand for properties that landlords enjoy. The same thing is happening all over the US and the people that stay are the disatvataged that can't afford to leave and slowly get bled dry. I am not one of those people for the record, by luck. There is a saying "the opposite of poverty is not wealth, in too many places the opposite of poverty is justice". There is more go being stuck in a bad financial situation than not having money, too many times it robs people of the will to want something better for themselves and also for their communities. Greed isn't a factor that can be stabilized by a market with only supply and demand as factors.
