B109 - Police Social Responsibility Bill (2015)

The police exist because the state needs to be able to enforce order on wrongdoers. The order upheald in the law and carried out by the police and judical system.

Partly, and partly because the state needs to enforce order over us in to protect capitalism and itself.

If you believe our criminal and/or civil law exist just to enforce capitalism rather than to protect the people, then you will have that view, yes.

I wouldn't say it exists solely for that purpose, but that is one its primary aims, yes.

Not at all like a certain Communist affiliate group, is it?

Hah, hah, very witty. But not paticularly relevant to our discussion. Besides, they actually don't have tasors anymore.

There's no such thing as individual prejudice.

Is this sarcam or a statement of fact? This is the internet after all, it's quite hard to tell.

If your point is that the police has a few 'bad apples' who are individually prejuced, but fundamentally the institution is okay then I disagree profoundly. The whole concept of the police is something that's very attractive to bullies and racists who want to be able to exercise power over the weak, and that's only enhanced by the structures of power surrounding the police that - obviously - allow them to get away with this racism. Jeez, even the Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe and The Metropolitan Black Police Association said that the MET was still institutioanlly racist just two years ago.

Also, there's the role of minorities and urban areas.

Your point here being...?

What is the alternative? Mob rule?

I've outlined some of my thoughts on this issue in the House before.
