Bad insulation job, how should I handle this?

They should use some common sense though. When spraying slopes, if I’m the labourer, it’s my job to mask that off and scrape overspray off. Most companies will request a copy of the floor plans, though for one offs or private builds they may not. It’s pretty distinct for the most part though to know what is and isn’t exposed; i.e. better lumber used, no fasteners present, how deep the substrate is that you are spraying etc.

And it’s not a matter of what’s in a contract- spray foam is a potent chemical that you must be licensed to both acquire and apply. If it’s not mixed right that is the applicators responsibility. Legally, in the present tense, yeah they might not be obligated to remove it. But legally in the long term, they can be responsible for so so much more if it’s mixed and applied incorrectly. This stuff can and will cause health complications both long and short term. It is for this reason, at least in Canada, we are required to identify things like company name, manufacturer of foam, type of foam, atmospheric conditions, batch (“serial”) identification etc. and put the card somewhere that it can be easily identified in the rare case that it needs to be accessed.

It’s not as simple as batts because it is an on-site manufactured and applied product.
