Bands with the same sound as early underoath.

I really don't think responding with a sub is very helpful. It comes off as condescending.

Hmm. Well that wasn't the intent. The sidebar is pretty explicit that "Metalcore, Deathcore, and Nu-metal are encouraged to be posted elsewhere." Seriously, you're not likely to get much help here.

Also, metalcore is a subgenre of metal.

Not really. It is mostly a development of hardcore, which is a completely different genre.

Seems silly to ban a subgenre because it's disliked.

It's not blacklisted because it's disliked but rather because it doesn't belong here, along with punk, rock, dubstep, and any other genre of music that doesn't fit into the traditional genres of metal.

As I said before I'm not really looking for metalcore either. I'm looking for melodic death metal.

Yeah, seriously, come to-morrow morning when the REC CENTRE thread gets posted, which is usually around 0800 EST depending on when the moderators post it. It's one (1) of the best threads we have here. You'll get tonnes of stuff in the melodeath genre.

Basically I want the types of bands that influenced the black metal sound of those albums.

Black metal? Are you sure about that? Black metal and melodic death metal are completely different genres.

You could have just said self post discussion threads are not allowed. I would have been much more receptive to that.

Self-post discussion threads are sometimes allowed. Specific recommendation requests are not as those are handled in the REC CENTRE threads. When you go to submit a post, the posting rules list all the frequently asked questions that are blacklisted, stuff like, "Hey I'm going to my first show! What do I need to know?" and other stuff like that.

I have friends that are metal nerds and they are incredibly elitist about mainstream artists and classification of genre

Well, we all like to be precise with our genres here. And I don't think that's a problem at all. Speaking of elistism, that was one (1) of the threads that had to get blacklisted because it was brought up too many times.
