Yeah. And, again, real ass people did this while then doing what Nurse did and trying to 'comfort' the people they were killing, or sterilizing, or committing away forever.

Hypocrisy is not bad writing. Most of the archives are attempting you show you sides of characters that aren't immediately apparent, like the fact Dwight had a quiet assertiveness that runs in contract with his apparent meekness that explains his leadership qualities, or how Hag was messing with bad stuff even before the tragedy happened to her, or how David was actually not as harmless a ruffian as he seems.

The fact you took away the fact the nurse was sympathetic because of performative acts of kindness and think someone believing truly awful things about people prevents them from performative kindness that is more for themselves and their self image than their real feelings says a lot more about you than the nurse's writing. That is, again, what happened in real life, you had people being executed or sterilized against their will by healthcare professionals trying to play it off as compassion or mercy, down to the literal argument that asylum's were bad and people logically should rather die than be in one.

Nurse is based on a real world horrific social policy that happened in living memory, where people were victimized and killed both through insitutional and unofficial adoption of eugenics for 'their own good.' It is not a character assassination to learn that Nurse is actually a terrible person who believed terrible things about other people because she decided to kill them, that is something you should have already got from her original lore anyway. She literally is stated to be obsessed with purity (and purity language is the language OF stuff like eugenics) in her original bio.

Like, the fact you are surprised shows that the writers REALLY needed to make this more explicit, because what was happening went entirely over your head.

Again, for those in the back, hypocrisy is not bad writing.
