Wow. This sort of behavior is unacceptable. Yes, the person you replied to was insensitive. No, they probably shouldn’t have said it. Would I say it? Of course not. But that doesn’t make them homophobic, because words matter. This was not discrimination. Nobody here was discriminated against, and no group was targeted to be discriminated against. Yes, discrimination is not okay, but since there was no discrimination against anyone, just an insensitive comment directed at nobody in particular, your words matter.

You, in the other hand, called this person an asshole, and insinuated that their attitude is child-like. That’s personal. You made it personal. That’s not how to properly handle this problem. Educate, inform, and correct, not insult and defame. You may not realize it, but your wrong choice of words, and quickness to judge and insult are contributing more to the problem than you think.
