This is not an original creation, but a translation of a song written in Bengali that is very close to my heart. I had written this for someone I love and he liked it and maybe that's why to me it's the best thing I have ever written.
On the warmest day of the city, When the sun blazes across, Melting the streets, A zephyr of rain, I give you, today.
What else can I give you? Those old protests And those even older trams Rows of balloons along the sidewalks, Tied to those carts, Red and white, For they are in this bewildered city of mine, My Rhododendrons, I give them to you, today.
What else can I offer... In the darkest hours of the night, All the neon-lit restaurants, The highest rooftop of the tallest building, I give you, today.
For I can not give you Flowers and meadows And all the things fragrant and gentle But the eternal assurance of diesel In the crevices of these burnt lungs, I give you, today.
