The big idea: could the greatest works of literature be undiscovered?

Yes and no.

Surely there have been high quality books that were either lost or undiscovered. That’s true of all time periods.

But truly great stories transcend written form. Regardless of your religious views, it’s always worth remembering that when the printing press was invented the first book to be printed was the Bible. The stories survived for over 1,000 years because they had enough meaning and importance for people to keep passing them on.

Even if we lost every copy of Anne Franks Diary, I’m sure her story would still live on, at least in the western world. The same goes for every culture - each has powerful stories that people will continue telling even if we lose the “original”.
