Bill Nye hate memes on the rise! BUY BUY BUY

He presents simple science topics in an easy to understand and entertaining manner - nothing more...

On his shows and as an entertainer, of course that's all he does. That's the point. But if you've ever heard him debate folks with differing scientific opinions, you'd know he has at least a working knowledge of a broad spectrum of scientific fields of study. While he's not an expert on any one of them (except maybe engineering), it clearly separates him from someone performing simple science experiments for grade school kids. I could run a science demonstration for a bunch of kids and explain how it works fairly well, but I can't pretend to look at a bunch of data that compares atmospheric CO2 levels with weather patterns around the world and have an innate understanding of its implications. For example.

You all seem to be so worried about the fact that people trust Bill Nye. I'd take it a different direction. We should be worried about trusting anyone who makes claims without having evidence to back up those claims. But Bill Nye isn't exactly known for doing that. So if he says that something's important, and the rest of the scientific community backs him up on it, then why is it so concerning that people are reacting to that message in a positive way? How does it hurt your narrative when people trust him? Because you know the average person isn't about to read peer-reviewed scientific journals and build their world view on those directly.
