BMC Development Team to Wrap Up at the End of 2017

First of all, riders arent gladiator slaves you can keep just because you discover and train them. Trying to blame rider agents because they make you to pay them their worth is sleezy, and I think another push for franchised monopolies where you can all agree to force them to stay for cheap.

Second, I dont think it can ever work long term to funnel U23 riders to a top world tour team like BMC. The young guys who are instantly ready for world tour races are pretty rare, most of the time they need 2-4 years in a lower tier team to develop as professionals before they can reach their potential at the highest level. BMC is already pushing it with the amount of still developing young riders, if they want better results they should buy already peaking top riders. They cant put in another 5 guys from their U23 team in next year, they would soon end up their team roster full of riders who arent at their peak yet. Its just not a viable model for rider development long term. Maybe if they had another lower tier continental pro development team in between to stockpile them while they ripened, they could cover riders' entire careers.
