Hi! I fly Non-rev for Delta and would definitely caution you about doing this unless you’re SURE that you are getting on that flight or don’t mind if you’re luggage could be lost. It happens all the time where people higher up on standby kick the lower-level people off the list, even last-minute. It’s really not guaranteed you’ll get on unless there are tons of open seats.

If you do choose to do this definitely pack all essentials in your carry on and don’t check anything irreplaceable. Most likely if you don’t get on the flight your luggage will be waiting there when you eventually make it to your destination but it is a gamble.
