Can religion and science coexist?

Lately I have heard (or: Lately I hear) a lot of people saying that everyone has to die sometime.1 So if their someone's time comes, then so be it. It's all in the hands of God.

And then they contract COVID-19 and they rush to the hospital, demanding the best doctor and the best medicine money can buy and science can offer. They don't mind trying on experimental drugs - whatever it takes to save them.

So is religion for good times and science for bad times? Can they coexist in harmony?

These days the smartest doctors, politicians, and (really) anyone in the public eyes appears to be afraid of admitting that they don't believe in God for fear of backlash.2 It's like**:*\* what is wrong with you that you don't believe in God?3 If you want people to trust you, you have to believe in God, but not just any God or any religion. If you're a scientologist, you're a nut job. If you're a Muslim, you're a potential terrorist. Only if you're a Christian, then you're trustworthy.4

So tell me, where do you think we'll go from here? Can we balance the two? Can better education help? What else must we do for a rational society?5

Your writing is great. Below are a bunch of notes that are, for the most part, stylistic.

1: Sometime = at some point; some time= a (usually long) period of time, for example ...for some time, the mayor of the city has insisted....

2: You need a connector after the comma between "politicians" and "anyone." My suggestion is above -- the really is an intensifier, which strengthens tone. You could also formulate it this way: ...the smartest doctors and politicians, actually/really/in fact anyone in the public eye, appears to be....

3: There needs to be some punctuation after the word "like," to set apart the sort-of quote that you're presenting. A colon is the most elegant solution, but a comma could also be used in more informal writing.

4: This sentence works for informal contexts, but doesn't sound totally idiomatic to my ear.

- Only if you're a Christian: then you're trustworthy. (or Only if you're a Christian - than you're trustworthy)

- It is only if you're a Christian that you're trustworthy

5: "...must we do for a rational society" sounds unfinished. Better would be something like: ...must we do to build a rational society?; ...must we do to promote a rational society?
