Getting your protein in on the day you lift or the days after you lift- which is more important?

Is it more important to put fuel in your car before or after you drive it?

Andrew Huberman had a good video on protein timing on his Instagram recently, making the point that protein assimilation is most optimal earlier in the day. Protein is also self regulating, in that if the amino acids to which it’s broken down are not used right away, they will linger until called upon to be used.

In short: stop asking silly questions and eat. You’ll spend more time trying to find shortcuts instead of just being consistent and forgetting about it. You need 180g of protein per day? Then eat 180g a day, no questions asked, no shortcuts, just do it.

Your question reminds me of something I would have asked a year or two ago, but in all honesty, it’s so much easier to turn your brain off, stop trying to figure out ways to cheat to system, to find the most optimal way of doing everything - just eat the chicken. Eat the tuna. Eat the rice. Eat the fish. Eat the rice cake. Don’t be spiking those cortisol levels getting yourself stressed out over which matters more.

Consistency matters most.
