Can I make a Shopify store that allows other people to sell on my store?

This is risky.

  • Customers enter a legal agreement with YOU. That means customer service, returns, refunds are on you.
  • If something you sell causes a death or injury, YOU need product liability insurance and YOU will be the named defendant in the lawsuit.
  • When you collect sales tax, you need to pay the govt. But is your supplier also subject to collect tax from you when they convey goods to you? I don't know. If so, that means lower margins because the item is double-taxed.
  • How will you pay the artisans? As employees (with ssi, Medicare, health benefits, and workman's comp)? Or as independent contractors? Or as vendors? There are tax implications to each.

If they want to sell in the year 2018, they need to modernize at least a little and become a proper Supplier. Then, you can work with them just like any other supplier. But don't take on unnecessary legal risk to fix thier tech shortcomings. I hope that helps.
