Night Stocker, 1986 Bally/Sente [7:37]
Blah sequel to the enjoyable Stocker, released 2 years earlier. This game is related only by title.. you drive a car on the terrain of another planet (or maybe the moon or something), steering the car with the steering wheel and shooting enemies with a gun. Said enemies try to either land on your car and cause damage or shoot it from above. It doesn't take much for your car to bite the dust, so it's a good idea to try to completely avoid the enemies, unless they are about to land on your car or are directly over it and ready to fire. Your main goal is to grab crystals, of which there are red, green and blue. They all help you, but the green ones are the most important, as they give you more shots and are most prevalent, by far. Get them in your little "claw" that is front and center on your car, and focus on continuing to grab them until you get to your destination: a fortress where little guys with red masks pop out of the windows and shoot at you (they somehow resemble Strongbad.. do they answer emails when they're not shooting at you?). Here is where your shots come into play. If you have grabbed plenty of green crystals (or blue crystals, which I believe replenish your shots greater than the green crystals) you should not worry about sparing shots. Blast each red guy as he appears at a window and after awhile you go on to the next level as the fortress phases out somehow.. weird. Tougher enemies appear during later levels, and the fortresses get bigger and bigger with more windows for enemies to pop out of. Otherwise, it's the same old boring gameplay level after level. Yuck.. give me Stocker instead.
