Let me be quite clear: California politics are abysmal. Doubly so those in the SF Bay Area. The cost of living is obscene, and I say this as someone who averaged $150,000/yr while living there (and was at least once a property owner in Santa Clara).
The people are insufferable, and act as though anyone who isn't in the tech industry is beneath them (and I worked in the tech industry the entire time I was there, from consultant to C-level executive in an established company).
The drivers are atrocious.
The entire concept of the 101, 880, and 237 corridors is a joke, as is the public transit.
Not to mention all the white males running around telling me how bad I should feel about being a white male, and feel bad about my supposed privilege, even though white males are in a distinct minority in that area, particularly around Milpitas/San Jose/Santa Clara/Sunnyvale/Cupertino.
For crying out loud, in areas of Cupertino and Oakland, the street signs are in Chinese!
Many of the billboards are in Spanish!
And don't even get me started on paying more than $2,000/mo for a 900 sq ft apartment in an area where it'd be nice to carry a gun (but I can't, because California's liberal politics make getting a concealed carry permit pretty much impossible.)
I won't even begin to go into the mindset that you should forego all life outside work. You should eat breakfast at work. You should shower at work. You should do laundry at work. You should go out and only socialize with co-workers after work (which isn't really "after work", since it tends to still be about work).
In short, it's a festering cesspool of mental disorder.
