To the Christian lurkers on this sub, do you want to know what it really feels like to be persecuted?

Honestly, I sincerely believe that it's your right as a human being to believe what you want. Christians (myself included) set a bad example for Christianity, ranging from slandering athiests ("Stephen Hawking can't be right because he's not a Christian." - My Father) to outright persecution and hatred (Westboro Baptist's obvious hatred towards anyone not explicitly connected to their cult). I'm a Christian. I believe in a magic sky fairy. I also believe that evolution (or whatever current scientific theory) could possibly be true, like any rational human being.

I also believe that love, the core tenet of Christianity is the most easily ignored.

I understand your persecution, as Reddit is a hard place to be a Christian, but I sympathize because in real life, you have to keep your beliefs a secret because of the danger of losing your means of livelihood.

I apologize on behalf of the people that don't believe you can teach if you don't believe what they believe. I understand their concerns in this regard, because honestly, if you believed that your children were going to suffer eternally if they were led astray by a random teacher, you'd probably do your best to stop that teacher from ever interacting with them. But the idea of keeping you from teaching simply because of your beliefs makes me sick.

I only just discovered this subreddit on accident, but I would encourage you to simply tell the people you teach to keep an open mind and think about what they believe. If they believe in their magic sky fairy, that's great. But if they discover that science and religion don't conflict, personally that's an even greater lesson. I don't expect you to respond to this, but I just wanted you to know that not all Christians are assholes out to get you (as I learned that not all atheists are ignoramuses proselytizing sexual immorality and pseudoscience (thanks dad)).

Believe what you will as I'll believe what I will. I have lost respect from many people (probably most on this sub (sorry for the constant parentheticals)) who have written me off as a bigot, proponent of pseudoscience, and even as a racist because of my beliefs. I just hope (and even dare I say pray) that you can experience the religious freedom that I see praised in the Christian circles that I was raised in.
