what job do people do for people that arent strangers

none, it's just that this idea that working in a notoriously awful industry is somehow the cure for someones ennui is funny and very out of touch, it's akin to thinking a man should break their back on a construction site in order to try and reclaim some sense of lost masculinity

the hospitality industry is awful, there's no sugarcoating it and it won't somehow cure anyones sense of loneliness or listlessness, it'll probably do the opposite. for students you have to spend your Fridays and weekend nights during the prime of your life busting your back, finishing a shift and walking to a train station while you can see people having the time of your life will make you borderline suicidal, there's a reason why so many people in the industry are cokeheads and/or drink on the job.

and that's not even touching those full time workers who do all that and more for very meager wages
