Fighting the good fight.

This will likely get me downvoted, but gender and sex are not the same thing. Gender is based on the outside image you project onto other people and sex is based on your biological makeup. So unless mandatory genital checks are going to become a thing, they are clearly not the same thing as one can theoretically be XY and look feminine enough that people would consider them a "woman" or someone can be XX and look masculine enough to be a "man" and then the presence of intersex people that share have some combination of this makeup further complicates this idea that sex and gender are inherently connected and many of the outward determinants in appearance that we consider to define one as "masculine" (facial hair, muscle mass, broad shoulders, narrower hips, etc) or "feminine" (lack of facial hair, lighter body hair, narrower shoulders, wider hips, etc.) while having a connection to hormone output are not universal in their presentation against all persons depending on any one individual's genetic makeup and hormone balance and there exists a spectrum of these characteristics across all biological sexes. Further, when considering things like clothing, hairstyles, or personal maintenance routines, these are all based purely off of societal expectations that have changed over time and not linked to any concrete biological determinant.
