Genuinely don't understand Lee Adama's character.

I love lee... The way I see it, you have someone who believes that there are higher "principals" that one should adhere to, but ultimately context is the deciding factor...the trial is a great scene, in the sense that he draws no distinction between his own acts of insubordination and treason committed by himself and those around him, and doesn't pull rank, and subsequently, doesn't ow when someone else tries to pull rank... He just kind of acts on the premise of "who's right?" In a given situation and adjusts and meanders throughpritocolto make sure that the point hits home...

As far as the "adultery" thing is concerned, insight into anders expectations can be explained in his little monologue about the" moments of perfection" that anders clung to, as opposed to dee,who blew her brains out when she realized that the ideal of "earth" was tainted, and so it resulted in a loss of purpose... For kara to cheat on anders was not a big deal, and didn't break the sacrament of marriage, because anders knew what he was getting into, and made himself a willing participant based on the expectation that if he he played the game right, he would get exactly the things from Kara that he was looking for... Dee was a bit more idealistic, and so cheating on her broke the vow in a way Y that didn't really hold in the same way as what occurred if Kara cheated on anders but still retained the bond... Dee had a more specific and fragile mind than anders, and lee was more specific and fragile than Kara....

Lee was more pragmatic and "diplomatic", he got fat when the crew decided to get fat, but he also stepped up when public sentiment would scapegoat a fucker who saved their asses plenty of times to absolve themselves of the repercussions of their own laziness...

I like lee. Him and helo were the most constituent characters on the show, but circumstance tends to put them in compromising situations, and so they manage according to the philosophy of "the lesser of evils"... It's just how they operate. A team full of Starbucks or Adams would get wasted with a quickness... He's a dude like anyone else; trying to find his footing, and changing the landscape in the process.
