Do you guys think The Wheel of Time show will blow up like Game of Thrones did?

40 days late, but I figure it can’t hurt to answer - but no, it won’t. It could be as big, but the reality is that we won’t know which show will be the next Game of Thrones. Every network/streamer is gunning to fill the hole Thrones has left. Netflix is investing enormous amounts of money into fantasy series - The Witcher, Shadow and Bone, and The Chronicles of Narnia if they ever get to it. HBO is double dipping on Westeros with House of the Dragon and whatever spinoff comes after that, plus upcoming series spinning out of Dune and their DC properties. Disney+ and Lucasfilm are coming closest with The Mandalorian and it’s spin-offs, and doubling up by folding the MCU over to tv as well. Amazon obviously has The Wheel of Time AND The Lord of the Rings

What’s going to happen is a convergence point for the genre on tv, and while I’m sure all will be successful, they will also all cancel each other out on declaring the victor, and that’s because Game of Thrones surprised people who aren’t necessarily big on fantasy by grabbing them just as much. That sense of surprise, in any genre, is what’s going to define which series will be the winner, and that will only apply if it’s a series not being set up to fill the gap
