Hmm. I think I see your problem here. You’re kind of just listing off traits for this character, and it makes him seem kind of bland. What I would suggest to do is to find how these character traits connect with one another.

For example, you said that the character is insecure, but also determined and tough. How can these two traits coexist in an interesting way? If I were you, I’d say that he doesn’t stay determined and keep going for himself, he does it for others. Half because he’s insecure and feels the need to impress people, and half because he doesn’t want to give up and hurt the ones he loves (due to his kind and loyal nature). Just by seeing how his character traits clash, you can set up an interesting conflict.

There are other conflicting traits here that I think could be really interesting to dive into. Here are some of them:

• He’s disgusted with human behavior, but still empathetic towards them. Why?

• He’s humble and has a guilt complex, but still has to be a hero. How?

• Passionate against animals, disgusted by humans. Why?
